This course will give you the skills, tools and mindset to balance growing teams, tasks and priorities. Learn some ways to deal with the challenges that come with the role you play in your organization’s accomplishments.
Course Outline
Adjusting to Your Role
This session shares methods to help participants understand the leadership formula in the new workplace and their role.
Your Responsibilities
Your responsibilities to employees, management, and yourself. This session discusses those areas of a manager’s role.
Defining Leadership
This session looks at different qualities of leadership and how to apply them authentically.
Impact + Presence + Authority = Trust
Inspiring others to actions means trust. This session will focus on the manager’s presence and impact and what authority means in building trust.
Action-Centered Leadership
This session deals with how to balance priorities in a management role using the action-centered model.
Setting Goals and Making Plans
Planning is a vital part of a successful manager’s role. Rather than being in reactive mode, planning helps the manager to be more successful and model the behaviour. This session looks at ideas regarding plans, how to use the Urgent-Important Matrix to help develop a plan, a planning case study, the elements of planning, and planning tools.
Developing a High-Performing Team
This session includes a look at the stages of team development, moving a team through those stages, team problem solving, and team leadership. Managers will work through team building tips, helping teams work toward goals and purpose.
Communication Skills
Communication skills are essential to being an effective manager. In this session, influencing by using communication skills will be practiced.
Empathy
As a manager in the new workplace, empathy is key. In this session, three types of empathy will be explored and practiced.
Social Styles
We are all unique; being aware of our social style and those of others will help managers be more effective with motivation, time and understanding.
Providing Feedback
One of the jobs of a manager is giving meaningful feedback. This session covers the BEST characteristics of effective feedback and gives participants an opportunity to roleplay this skill.
Workshop Wrap-Up
At the end of the course, students will have an opportunity to ask questions and fill out an action plan.
